Google rolled out a new feature in Gemini this month. You can now tap once and connect your Google Business Profile directly to it. Once you do, Gemini can read your reviews, see what people are asking, and pull your performance data. Then it can act on that information.

This is not a gimmick. It is a real time saver for anyone running a local business who does not have a team to manage their profile. And it is free.

Most people will ignore this for six months. The ones who connect it now and build a simple workflow around it will have an edge by Christmas.

What it actually does

Once your profile is connected, you can ask Gemini to draft replies to reviews, update your opening hours, summarise what customers are asking, or tell you what your busiest times are. You approve everything before it goes live. It does not post on your behalf.

It also means Gemini now knows the basics about your business. What you do, where you are, what your customers say. That context carries through to anything else you ask it to do later, like writing a post or drafting a service description.

I tested it with a cafe client last week. We connected the profile, asked Gemini to summarise the last 20 reviews and flag the common complaints. It took 30 seconds. The owner fixed the two things that kept coming up, and we drafted replies to every review in the queue in under 10 minutes. That used to take an hour.

It only works for single locations right now

If you manage one Google Business Profile, you can connect it. If you run a franchise or manage profiles for multiple locations, you cannot. Google has not said when that will change.

For sole traders, single-location cafes, one-site tradies, this is immediately useful. For anyone managing a handful of branches, it is not ready yet.

How to connect it

That is it. Once it is connected, you can start asking it questions or giving it tasks in plain English.

01
Open the Gemini app or go to gemini.google.com.
Look for the Google Business Profile integration banner. It is rolling out in stages, so it might not be there yet. If you do not see it on the home screen, check under settings or look for a prompt about new features.
02
Tap Connect. Read the permissions.
You are giving Gemini access to your profile data. You are not authorising it to post anything without your approval.
03
Set up a Business Notebook if prompted.
This is where Gemini organises business tasks and suggestions. Pick the categories that match what you actually need: review management, customer questions, or performance tracking.

Three things to use it for right now

Draft review replies. Ask Gemini to write a response to a new review. Check it, tweak the tone if it sounds too generic, and post it. This is the fastest win.

Summarise customer questions. If people have been asking questions on your profile and you have not kept up, ask Gemini what the most common ones are. Then add those answers to your FAQ or your website.

Pull performance insights. Ask when your busiest times are, or which services get mentioned most in reviews. Use that to plan staffing, adjust your hours, or promote what is already working.

The trick is to use it for the repetitive work that you put off because it takes too long. That is where the time comes back.

The businesses that keep their profile current, respond to reviews, and answer questions are the ones that show up in those answers.

Why this matters more than it looks

Google is moving local search into AI. Ask Maps launched in March. It lets people type a question like "quiet cafe good for working" and get an AI-generated recommendation. Gemini reads your Business Profile to decide if you fit.

The businesses that keep their profile current, respond to reviews, and answer questions are the ones that show up in those answers. Connecting Gemini to your profile makes that easier to do consistently.

You do not need to become an AI expert. You just need to connect the thing Google has built and use it for the boring tasks that eat your time.

Most local businesses will not bother. That is the opportunity.
